Zerg Build Order
This is basically a strategy for all those long games that involves you and one or more
computers/players duck it out over a large map with plenty of expansion points. First off,
have your 4 drones gather minerals. After you have sent the 4 probes to gather, make
another drone at your Hatchery. Wait until you have another 50 minerals (which should be
at the same time your new drone comes out) and make another drone. Have the drone you just
created to gather minerals. After you get 50 more minerals make another drone ( which
should be about half way through your second drone you made). On your 8th drone, make him
search the map for you and find your enemy and figure out what he/she is making. On your
9th drone have him make you a spawning pool. While the spawning pool is being made, make a
total of 3 overlords and wait to accumulate 150 minerals. You should have around 150
minerals when your spawning pool is finished and then make 6 zerglings(3 eggs). Everytime
a new larva appears, make another set of zerglings. Keep making them until you have about
12-24. That depends on what your opponent is making(you found this out when you researched
him at the start of the game with your 8th drone). I usually make 16 or so just to be
safe. After you have about 12 zerglings make 3 drones. Have 1 of them make a new Hatchery
and one of them an extractor. The other lone drone can be sent as another scout or to mine
minerals. I usually have him mine minerals because I already know what my opponent is
doing. While your second hatchery is being built make 3 more drones and have them mine gas
as soon as they come out. Make 2 more drones and 1 set of Zerglings while you wait. By now
you should be done your 2nd hatchery and make 2 overlords there. With the 2 drones you
just made make one Hydralisk Den and have the other make a creep colony, so you'll have
more room. After the 2 overlords are done, make 3 Hydralisks. Next make 3 hydralisks at
your 1st hatchery and 1 drone and an overlord at your second hatchery. Have the one drone
make an evolution chamber, and as that building, upgrade your Hatchery into a Lair. While
these 2 buildings are being made make 5 hydralisks and 1 drone all in one wave until both
buildings are done. You should have about 3-4 drones after that, send these 3-4 drones
along with 12 zerglings to a nearby expansion point. Have one make a hatchery, the other a
extractor and have the others gather minerals but keep them beside your developing
hatchery.
Back at your main base, make 5
Hydralisks and 1 drone. Have the drone make a Spire if you got the cash. If you don't have
enough have him mine minerals and then make 4 more drones and have them mine minerals.
After that make the Spire if you haven't. while your spire is done make 1 drone and how
ever many Hydralisks you can make between your 3 hatcheries. Save 100 minerals and gas and
upgrade your missile weapons to level one. after your spire is done, make a queen's nest
with the drone you made earlier. While that being made save some money and build a few
Mutas and 1 drone. Have that drone make you another evaluation chamber. When that chamber
is done, upgrade the carapace. After your queen's nest is built, make 1 queen and have her
explore the map for you. Proceed to upgrade your Lair to a Hive. While that process is
being done, upgrade your missile weapons to level 2 and make more Mutas and Hydras as your
money permits. With your queen, you should be able to spot expansions by your opponent and
then quickly eradicate them with your upgraded Hyrdras and Mutas. Proceed to destroy where
possible. After you Hive is done, upgrade your Spire to a Greater Spire and make 4 drones.
have the 4 drones make another expansion for you and have it guarded by Hydras and
sunken/spore colonies. Keep making drones there till you have sufficient amount of cash
flow. Your greater spire should be done and now is where you have to stop and think. If
you've properly scouted your opponent you should know the following things:
1. Where his base is
2. Where his MAJOR defenses are
3. Where there is holes in his defense
4. Where his expansions are/were
5. WHAT HE IS BUILDING!!!!!!
Pay strict attention to number 5, because that where people screw up the most and end up
losing a game they should have won. If your enemy is making carriers and scouts. Don't
keep pumping out the Ultralisks...they'll get eaten up by his air units. So, if he's
concentrating on attacking you with EX: loads of Hydras and Zerglings(not the same
opponent as previously mentioned) then by all means, pump out those Ultras and squish the
bugs. Make the appropriate buildings and then make 24 mutas and transform them into
guardians. After you get this done, make 12 more hydralisks and gather a group of about
36-48 Hydras upgraded to at least 2-2 (preferably 3-3). Send your 24 Guardians to the back
of your opponents base while attacking your opponent at the front with you Hydras. This
will confuse the enemy and force him to divide his troops which means you'll be able to
kill him easier and faster. If you run into trouble like...say 24 scouts run into your
guardians, do what I do......MAKE MORE HYDRAS! Upgrade them to the max and send um on down
until you have exterminated your enemy. Also a group of 12 mutas can do a little damage
after you've killed off the defenses.
*LAST NOTE*
When you are plagued by a Terran player who insists on making billions of tanks and
sticking them in siege mode, just make a group of 12 guardians and listen to him yell. Be
sure make a bunch of hydras to back up your guardians on this tactic in case you run into
a few Wraiths.
